Roy De Forest (1930-2007) was an American painter, sculpture, and teacher. Deforest was one of the preeminent artists of the California Bay area. Usually associated with the “Funk” art movement. His paintings, remarkably consistent in vision across the decades, describe overheated landscapes inhabited by questing travelers and canine creatures. World travels spurred Mr. De Forest's work as did the animals that shared his home in Port Costa. De Forest invites the viewer to create a personal narrative from his aggregations of dogs, farm animals, and an assorted cast of characters set amidst a cacophony of brightly colored and patterned forms.
